The Bulldogs Win Against the Hawks - AFL 2006 -

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start against the Hawks kicking just the one goal to the Hawks 4 but steadied in the second and kicked 6 goals to the Hawks 3, The Doggies ran out eventual winners kicking 9 goals to 6 in the last half.

The Best Players for The Bulldogs were : Brad Johnson with 30 possessions, 11 marks and four goals, while Scott West (34 touches) and Daniel Cross (30 disposals) . The Bulldogs look to have uncovered a real talent in Shaun Higgins, who gathered 22 possessions and kicked two goals in just his second game of AFL football.

The Coaches Said :

Rodney Eade : "I think as a team there was a great persistence all day and to Hawthorn's credit they obviously stuck at it," he said."It was certainly a pleasing win - I don't know if was one of our better wins - I would have liked to have put a bit more scoreboard pressure on early which may have helped, but certainly from a coaching point of view I was pleased with the persistence."

Alastair Clarkson : "It was a good game of footy from where we sat in the coaches box," Clarkson said."It was a good contest from go to woe, we got away to a good start and were perhaps a little bit fortunate that the Doggies kicked inaccurately early but maybe that was because of Hawthorn's good pressure as well.""We were really pleased with our start to the game and we just let it slip in a couple of areas in the second quarter where the Dogs, they're a fantastic running side, they just got a little bit of a run on."

The Western Bulldogs First Loss - AFL Blog 2006

The Western Bulldogs' flying start to the 2006 season has come to an abrupt halt, the visitors never recovering from a slow start at AAMI Stadium on Saturday as Adelaide claimed a crushing 77-point victory.

After disposing of Richmond, Melbourne, Essendon and Geelong in the opening month, the Bulldogs crashed back to earth as the Crows bolted to a 33-point lead by quarter-time and extended their lead at every change on the way to a 20.12 (132) to 7.13 (55) win.

The Crows exerted their dominance with a superb 6.5 to 1.2 first quarter with a stiff south-westerly wind, outscored the Bulldogs 2.4 to 1.4 in the second term and sealed the win with a powerful 12.3 to 5.7 second half.

Midfielder Scott Thompson (groin) also withdrew, and Hayden Skipworth and Jason Porplyzia were included and kicked one and a game-high three goals respectively.

The Bulldogs lost forward Robert Murphy (ankle) and defender Chris Grant (back) in the third quarter. Both were assisted from the field by trainers, but Murphy recovered to play in the final term.

Lindsay Gilbee, Nathan Eagleton, Daniel Giansiracusa, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen, Scott West, Rohan Smith and Jordan McMahon were busy Dogs, but it was difficult to find consistent players or many who made a real impact in a side thumped by so much.

ADELAIDE: 6.5, 8.9, 14.10, 20.12 (132)
WESTERN BULLDOGS: 1.2, 2.6, 5.11, 7.13 (55)

The Western Bulldogs Football Club - AFL 2006 -

The Doggies are pumped for 2006 as they are still un-beaten after four rounds and knocking of the Cats by one point, but can they keep it up? The Doggies are led by Scotty West, Brad Johnson, Chris Grant and Luke Darcy into 2006, as they take out the premiership favorites in a stunning game by one point and there dream start continues to roll.

Can the doggies keep this up? at the start of the season who would have put the Doggies up there on top of the ladder with West-Coast?

Go Doggies.
